Hanna Scheriau
Biography
After studying art at the University of Vienna and Oskar Kokoschka's legendary "School of Seeing" in Salzburg for a long time her family was the most important thing in the life of HANNA SCHERIAU, but she never gave up her passion for drawing and painting.
Around 2000, she discovered the medium SILK for her paintings and developed a completely new style of painting. This innovative style requires a lot of feeling, energy and painting skills as well as several work steps. And it has nothing to do with conventional methods of silk painting.
Each painting is unique and can not be copied becausei in contrast to canvas and paper, the silk is freely movable during painting. The final image is then mounted on canvas (or cardboard under glass).
Silk is is extremely durable, more than linen. The silk paints for artists are liquid, light fast and have a very specialluminosity.
Exhibitions of works of Hanna Scheriau took place not only in Europe, also in Asia and America. Her work has been awarded in several countries. In collections around the world paintings of Hanna Scheriau can be found - also in museums - and in important books on "Visual Arts".
Prof. Ernst FUCHS, Co-founder of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. was very pleased that Hanna SCHERIAU was able to give the ancient painting surface SILK a place in today's art scene with her "Experimental Painting on Silk".
What’s your background?
My background is my family, in which art has played a particularly important role for many generations, in the form of music, literature and, last but not least, painting.
What does it mean to you to win the Collectors Art Prize?
For certain reasons I have to live exclusively from my art, which has become a big problem (professionally and financially) for a while. As a result of Corona, the European War, serious fraud by an art gallery, sales blockages because of cyber attacks, etc, I often don't know how my life should go on.
A big glimmer of hope for me is the Collectors Art Price. Maybe someone will take care of my demonstrably worldwide unique way of painting on silk, so that I have the opportunity to continue my artistic work without financial problems.
What do you think is the role of art in the world today?
The current situation on our Planet Earth is really scary at times. People are overwhelmed by the constant, often extremely varied information and are afraid of a future that they see in the blackest colours.
They don't consider that the thoughts of every single person are a powerful energy.
“The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.“ (Marc AUREL)
ART is able to influence human thoughts and feelings in a positive way and can therefore be a helpful medium for better togetherness and can prevent unnecessary fear.
What would it be if you could change one thing about the art world?
I would strive to make the art world more equitable, so that only true art experts should make judgments about the quality of artworks. There should be no false complacency judgments to the detriment of an artist.
What are your most significant professional achievements?
In addition to prizes and awards, books, words of praise, etc., some particularly grateful feedback from the owners of my paintings about the helpful effect that my works radiate for them.
What do you wish to tell viewers about your work that might not come out explicitly? What do you hope to inspire with your artwork?
When an artist has been given a special gift for life, that's a gift to be grateful for. And I am with all my heart.
I am completely alone in the art scene worldwide with my “Experimental Painting on Silk”, which has been tried many times but nobody has succeeded. It is a unique technique.
The silk paints for artists are liquid, lightfast, UV-resistant and have a special luminosity.
Each picture is unique and cannot be copied because the painting surface can be moved freely while working and cannot be draped a second time in exactly the same way. It takes several work steps to complete an image.
What advice would you give to the upcoming generation of artists?
With their artistic work, they should - as far as possible - make their contribution to a more peaceful and happier world.
In what direction would you like to see your career go in the next five years?
Being a professional artist, I want to be able to live and work in the future without constant financial problems and cyber attacks.
