Juan Luis García
Biography
Juan Luis García (1973 - Oviedo, Principality of Asturias), is a Spanish artist.
He trained as an artistic painter at the Caveda Decoration Workshops and the Ana del Puente Art Workshop. He is a student of the Degree in Art History at the National University of Distance Education UNED.
He has participated in numerous drawing and painting contests where he has been awarded and selected on various occasions.
He is the creator of the Art Dimension Painting Collection that has been exhibited in the Exhibition Hall of the Palacete de La Lila. In collaboration with the Oviedo City Council.
He has also worked with various commercial art galleries, such as the Asturian CIMENTADA, with the GALERIA GAUDÍ in Madrid and SKY GALLERY ART'S in Barcelona.
Internationally he has presented his work at AFFORDABLE ART FAIR MILANO 2016 and in the exhibition project “Pilo Poem” organized by MADS MILANO ART GALLERY in Italy.
At the INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR ART3F PARIS 2021 in France.
He will soon participate in the ARTEXPO NEW YORK 2023 in the USA, with the Artavita Gallery.
What is your origin?
My origin is Spanish from the north, I was born in Oviedo, capital of the Principality of Asturias, on August 31, 1973.
What does it mean to you to win the Collectors Art Prize?
For me it is a source of pride and satisfaction that the work I have done throughout these years is recognized and an encouragement to continue striving to improve my pictorial and artistic work. -Long live the Collectors Art Prize!!!
What do you think is the role of art in today's world?
There are many definitions of what art is throughout history, for some it is the desire to create beauty, for others art is communication. The role of art currently ranges from mere entertainment in the leisure culture in which we are installed, to its didactic function and means of transmitting knowledge, work that is carried out very well in museums and their associations, taking care of artistic heritage and giving it to know. For me personally, the role of art in today's world is therapeutic, so it touches me personally. Dedicate myself to an artistic activity, learn its techniques, develop them further then try to advance my artistic career. That is art for me and summarizing a bit and answering the question, I believe that "the role of art in today's world is to humanize in the face of barbarism."
What would it be if you could change something in the art world?
There are certain shortcomings in the educational system regarding artistic education, they are not sufficiently valued and many times the teachers who teach them do not have adequate preparation. It is very difficult in my case to find good teachers who teach these disciplines and not only in the educational field. In the beginning it is very difficult to show your work in a room and that is another of the difficulties that I have encountered at the beginning of my career, the accessibility to the Exhibition Halls. The path of art is not easy at all and more so when you intend to professionalize yourself. It takes a lot of perseverance and self-confidence. Without forgetting the support of the family that is essential. Although they don't always understand you.
What are your most significant professional achievements?
Overcoming the disease with artistic therapies, in 1999 I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and since then medication and artistic therapies have accompanied me. If today I lead a more or less normal life, it is largely due to the painting workshops that I attended during all these years.
What would you like to tell viewers about your work that might not come out explicitly? What do you hope to inspire with your artwork?
What costs me the most when developing my artistic projects is financing. My resources are limited and financing artistic projects is difficult for me.
On one occasion, walking down a street, I saw a painting in the window of an art gallery. The painting was of great beauty and I couldn't resist going into the gallery and seeing the artist's exhibition. When I left, I told myself that one day I would love to paint such beautiful pictures. I think that if an artist manages to stimulate his peers to continue on the path of art. That is already a good source of inspiration.
What advice would you give to the next generation of artists?
That they train and prepare themselves to the best of their ability, not only as artists, but also as people to have a better world in which we can live. Artists are very necessary and we play a fundamental role in society. Can you imagine a world without artists? I don't.
In what direction would you like to see your career in the next five years?
Good question and difficult to answer since I don't have a crystal ball to predict the future. But after the pandemic break, I would like to resume everything, since right now I am dedicated to promoting my art through social networks and the internet, entering different online contests. Going back to the Workshop, continuing to train, creating new work and promoting it and forming a small team of collaborators will be essential if we are to continue with the artistic project.
