Biography

Since 2003 I have been painting the blue waters of swimming pools.  In 2006, after a solo show at Charles Campbell Gallery, I developed fibromyalgia and was unable to paint for several years.  In 2013 I resumed painting on a smaller scale than before.  In 2014 I painted my first Stow Lake landscapes.

What’s your background?

Since childhood I have been drawing and painting.  In college at Stanford University I majored in English because I had always been a great reader too.  After college I began to study art seriously at Santa Rosa Junior College, taking life drawing, drawing, painting and design.  I started to paint seriously.

What does it mean to you to win the Collectors Art Prize?

It is a validation of my work as an artist/painter.

What do you think is the role of art in the world today?

Art is the opposite of the pursuit of things in the world.

What would it be if you could change one thing about the art world?

I would make it more inclusive.

What are your most significant professional achievements?

I think it would be my years of teaching painting.

What do you wish to tell viewers about your work that might not come out explicitly? What do you hope to inspire with your artwork?

I am always looking for the less that is more.

What advice would you give to the upcoming generation of artists?

Try not to be influenced by whatever is current.  Work to develop your own ideas.

In what direction would you like to see your career go in the next five years?

I want to continue to paint despite my age.
