Jeanette Krantz Adner
Biography
I´m mostly autodidact but have study for Vladimir Kamendy for a short period in the 1980 in Sweden.
My inspiration for my work is the combination of sentenses, color, shapes and my muse Pat Metheneys music.
What ́s your background?
I have always been drawing and painting. For me art is a tool to understand reality, to get a grip of what is happening around us and try to be a little bit more concrete on
feelings and thoughts.
I was born and raised in the southern part of Sweden in a town by the see. In this part there is also a tradition that around easter every artist in town and surroundings have an exhibition and people from the hole country visit this event. It ́s intense and fun. I ́ve, so to speak, have been growing up seeing and discussing art.
In early days I stood with one leg in painting and one in music and the music took the lead but the need of painting was to strong so there was nothing more than obey that. To paint again. I went for a short time to an artist school in Malmo and come across Vladimir Kamendy as my teacher. The way he was talking about art, how to paint, the way to look at art embossed me. I also could use it in music. An amazing teacher!
Music took over and for many years I didn ́t paint at all. But the feeling of not being a hole person I started again. Now I try to do both, but I realize that I need to paint more.
Music however is very central since it is my fulltime work. When painting I always have the same composer in my ear, Pat Metheny. He, for me, have a fantastic way to tell a story and coloring the music so his music, my thoughts, situations, and color creates my art.
What does it mean to you to win the Collectors Art Price?
It means a lot! Recognition! But I also got very surprised! I have never seen myself as a “good” painter. I need to trust myself more and dare to do what comes to my mind without thinking if it ́s god enough or hesitating before I paint.
What do you think is the role of art in the world today?
Mankind would be poor without art. We need it to have something to gather round that appeal to us in a sentimental way. We need sentimental. Something that can be beautiful, expressive, thoughtful, ugly. Something that appeal to our feelings.
What would it be if you could change one thing about the art world?
In Sweden, who have a very conservative approach to “who can call himself a painter”losing the grip. Let self-taught in more.
In the world – I hope artist can help to change the destructive way to look at life today. We live in a world in worries and I think artist have a mission to lead us in on the right direction, to make the world better by showing what is happening to us and also give hope.
What are your most significant professional achievements?
To participate here at Collectors Art Price!
What do you wish to tell viewers about your work that might not come out explicit? What do you hope to inspire with your artwork?
Look again! Find new ways to look at the painting. Think. Make your own opinion about what you see. That the art over time also change in subject. That the art can work in two sides. The personal inner side, your life journey and what happens in world.
What advices would you give to the upcoming generation of artists?
Believe in what you do and want with your art. You can ́t satisfy all people in the world The most important is to satisfy yourself. Meet other artist, inspire and support
each other.
In what direction would you like to see your career go in the next five years?
My dream is to be able to paint fulltime. But I am humble to that. There are very few artist that are able to live from there art. I have so many pictures that have a need to be painted so I ́m doing my best and participate as much as I can in exhibitions.
