Description of artistic work
In my artistic work, the essence and soul of man is at the centre, his struggle for a vision, his utopias and abysses, his confrontation with the self and the encounter with the other. It arises both from spontaneously emerging inner images as well as from ideas about the psychic and intuitive functions of man and about his archaic experiences.
It also feeds on a state of mind and emotions, in which consciousness walks on the small degree between the conscious and the subconscious, revealing something like an inner myth that leaves its mark in the form of artistic work. This process takes place in the hope that these traces, which have become visible in this way, will also touch or even infect the other, ideally a form of infection that allows the viewer to immerse himself in his own inner myth.
I work photographically with the overlay of images and/or digital image editing. Both the superimposition and the digital alienation of the images play a decisive role in my photographic work, since I am not concerned with the depiction of the found reality, but with the new imagery created by associative overlay or alienation of the original photographic image.
One might ask: Does the form in which we perceive the world sensually, thinking, feeling and intuitively grasp a composition of a perception of reality and associative-projective imagination actually correspond? And what exactly corresponds to reality and what corresponds to imagination? And what exactly is reality and what is fantasy? Ultimately, everything is a matter of consciousness... therefore, it is probably both and neither of them, and at the same time it is neither both nor neither of them... a PARADOX...
life is just a dream of a higher AWAKENING...

"What if seas could sink into seas?"
The submitted images are part of my new series "Sunken Seas". The series is a work in progress and comprizes 200 images up to now.
The sea as a central metaphor encompasses a pool of possible symbolic associations, fantasies and interpretations such as "the unconscious", "the hidden", "the mysterious", "the incomprehensible", "the origin", "the primordial ground", "the vessel", "the container", "the immersion in oneself and in the world" and many others, which are offered to the viewer in the form of a photographic image series.

What’s your background?

I studied art at the Academy of Visual Arts in Düsseldorf with Professor Jannis Kounellis, whose poetic view of art and culture inspired and touched me especially. He tried to enable his students, "... to tell the emerging new epic not with descriptive details but with poetic power." He understood his artclass as a "central place of deepening", as a "reservoir of insatiable desires... to find the inherent form, to track down the drama again, the soul that gives strength to the breath inherent in every true image" (Quote from the catalogue of the exhibition "Meisterschülerinnen der Klasse Jannis Kounellis", Kunstverein Münsterland 2001).

The starting point of my artistic work was the sculptural work with different materials, from which my photographic work has developed. For some time I also worked with film and video. Even today there are phases in which I work sculpturally, as I enjoy the manual contact with the material very much, but I rarely show these works in exhibitions.

In addition, my artistic work is characterized by many years of intensive occupation with psychoanalysis and the unconscious during my further education at the Acedemie for Psychoanalysis in Munich.

Furthermore, I have been very intensively involved with contemporary dance and dance theatre for several years, which I found very inspiring for my photographic work. Dancing brought sensitization to the body more into the focus of my artistic work.

What does it mean to you to win the Collectors Art Prize?

I am honored to be awarded the Collectors Art Prize. For me, it is a great recognition of my artistic work.

What do you think is the role of art in the world today?

For me, a further development of humanity is inconceivable without a further development of art and culture. I can only answer the question of what is the role of art in the world today individually. In view of an increasing rationalization and conceptualization, which also strongly influences contemporary art, it is important for me to reconnect with body awareness, the intuitive, the unconscious, the atmospheric and the energetic space.

What would it be if you could change one thing about the art world?

Due to the fact that nowadays everything can be declared art, the demand for the quality of artistic work has fallen sharply. This is something I very much regret and would like to be able to change.

What are your most significant professional achievements?

Receiving the "Collectors Vision International Art Award" in 2021 by the Contemporary Art Curator team for me personally was the most significant professional achievement. I found the questions in the interview about this art prize very inspiring and they brought back long-forgotten memories of my childhood.

What do you wish to tell viewers about your work that might not come out explicitly? What do you hope to inspire with your artwork?

My artwork is most likely to open up to the viewer in a state of dreamy reverie, in which cognitive-rational perception is reduced and the activity of the intuitive and unconscious is given space. In this way, I hope to give the viewer a stronger access to his unconscious, which significantly controls and influences the course of our life and experiences.

What advice would you give to the upcoming generation of artists?

I think it is important to give more attention and weight to one's own artistic process and the line of inner development triggered by it than to supposed external successes concerning the art market.

In what direction would you like to see your career go in the next five years?

I hope to continue to participate in interesting exhibitions. In addition, I would like to open up further interesting exhibition opportunities for solo exhibitions.

As far as my artistic work is concerned, I would like to draw on my experiences in sculptural work, dance and body work in order to incorporate these qualities more strongly into my work and to expand my artwork beyond the photographic medium.
