Vigdis Elisabeth Feldt

Biography

I was born sourrounded by chorus singing and pictures. Two of my uncles were painters, the rest of the family were high quality chorus performers.

My father gave me crayons and drawing paper, from very early age.  I attended teachers college and specialized in Arts and Crafts, drawing and painting.

At this time I did not consider becoming a painter.  But after some courses in medias and iconography, I realized the enormous impact figurations and other written symbols have had on powerrelated communications.

This was interesting and motivating, I thought, and became a member at "The Free Artists' Academy" in Stavanger.  The students with an atelier place, which  I had, got corrections every half year.  Personally I also followed some courses.

My main teachers there, were, Kjell Phar Iversen,  the famous neo impressionist, Arne Hoffmann, clever teacher and architect, Ronald Lengauer, Intendant at Stavanger Art Asociation, and and an expressive painter,  sculpturor and instructor at the Academy.

I then started to try becoming a good story teller,  life examiner. First of all I urged to show the beauty of the created. Particularly did lights playing on water surfaces, interest me.

Also what goes on in human interactions became an interesting object to do research on.

But never forgetting to mention, my style is mostly expressive and impressionistic, but sometimes I do surrealistic stories.

Not every human being has this possibility to play, write stories, paint pictures and create music. Many individuals are forced to work hard from very young age.

They do not have the time to sit down and fabulate.

Even more;they lack clean water, nourishing food, healthy housing, sufficient education and sustainable work.  They are too tired to play, to communicate, to share ideas on practical solutions  to life' s challenges.

Despair and exaution arises. Then  lack of communication  capacities and realistic hopes for a better life,  further ,  leads to wars and an  irresponsible exploitation of nature.

This subduance of many million people must stop now.

Every individual must gain already mentioned human rights presented and executed.

Work, teaching and cultural activities must follow each other.  Communication must be the most significant tool among individuals and nations. Then we have a chance to save ourselves and the rest of the created.  I wish us all good luck with these projects.

What’s your background?

My formal motivation for becomming an artist is Teachers Training School, for  Primary an Secondary Levels.  I spezialized in Art and Crafts.  Studies implied “joy making techniques” appealing to creativity and experimentation. (Kristiandsand Teachers`College).

Many years later, 7 years atelier place at the Free Artists` Academy in Stavanger. I got corrections of my works, every half year from the teachers. Among them; Kjell Phar Iversen, the famous Neo Impressionist.

Media studies at Bergen University, department Stavanger, also made  me realize the impact pictures have as messenger to the viewers.Thinking emotions, relationships, politics, power , visibility.

I suppose I like to make stories , to be seen and to be listened to.

I was from birth surrounded by paintings made by my father`s brother, Leif Feldt, and his brother in law, Ole Johan Idsal.

My mother was a brilliant sopran solist. giving conserts in profane and church arenas. Mostly connected to her chorus, Stavanger Mixed Choir, which was the most pregnant choir in stavanger between 1928 and 1968. My father and most of my parents family members, were singers in the choir.

Their concerts inspired me through my childhood.

What does it mean to you to win the Collectors Art Prize?

Winning the Art Prize, makes me feel reassured that I have made pictures of quality. This is important to me.  Some of my pictures might also arise reactions among the viewers, and create an arena for discussion.

What do you think is the role of art in the world today?

Art could be informative, provocative, encourage us to ask questions,, create engagement, attitudes towards ourself and our environment. There are still people who suffer  from dyslexia, or illitteracy.  Pictures , also art pictures, might make learning easier for them.

What would it be if you could change one thing about the art world?

Talent and high quality performing first, not the “right” educational (school) background.

What are your most significant professional achievements?

My most important professional achievement is a separate exhibition at Galleria Il Collezionista in Rome in Februrary 2018. Winning Art Tour international Magazine`s Prize twice , 2022, 2023. Winning the prize at your institution followed by words like ; “ Artists; pushing the boundaries of their medium”. These are words highly appreciated by me.

What do you wish to tell viewers about your work that might not come out explicitly? What do you hope to inspire with your artwork?

Trying to find meanings in life is a need that must be communicated with yourself and others. Performing art helps. Performing art is a way of comforting myself, it also helps me cooling  down the restlessness in my body.

I wish to inspire people to see the beauty around them, and the beauty in their own soul or person, to dear to interprete their own experiences and thoughts through sketching, drawing, poetry writing or reading.

What advice would you give to the upcoming generation of artists?

First I would advice a young artist to dear to be alone, with their thoughts and with their work. Use music and crayons  to make your body, your instrument, free and in motion. Then, whatever medium you work with, use the tools you find necessary, for instance the golden ratio to easy the construction work.

Be meak towards others, but be proud of your gifts as a creative person.  Do not let anyone steal your joy of being the master of your tools and the master of your works. But learn from others.

The golden rule, what you want others to do for you, you should do to them.  Respect other people in your life, also their artistic language. See the other human beings, use time to sociolize and discuss with others  topics like sociology, anthropology, psychology, religion, human rights, environmental challenges,  Learn from others, listen and speak. Also through art.

In what direction would you like to see your career go in the next five years?

My five years plan is;

Working with my paintings and drawings, hopefully developing my skills. Explore, innovate. I will also have to give more exhibitions.

Painting pictures is a very lonely activity, so I have to increase my social activity level by engagements, perhaps by giving courses in painting and drawing, teaching English or Norwegian for smaller groups.

Engaging myself in some social work, is another option.

I urge to visit more towns with interesting architecture and good museums, also I have to attend more theatre plays and concerts.

Above all I want to keep up my contact with good friends, and find some new ones.
